The oldest remains found in the village of La Granada correspond to a set of fossils for about 16 million years, discovered during the construction of the railway line. In addition, the year 2007 was another site in the area of the Teuleria of poplars, which proved the existence of a Roman villa in the area. Despite this, from here there is little information on the occupation of the territory up to the medieval period.

The origins of the Granada are documented from the year 950 when Bishop Guilarà enfeoffed the Granada, in term of Olèrdola, Sisovald, who built a castle: the Tower of the Granada. We also have knowledge that the 991 existed the Church of St. Kitts. A few years later, the 1003 a Muslim attack led by Abd al-Malik Yûsuf, destroyed the Castle, which was rebuilt two years later.

But the construction of the village, which will probably be made about the remains of a previous settlement of Roman origin, it was step around this castle or the Church, but on the market. Born in the 9th century, the Granada can boast of having had the first market of the Penedès and one of the most important of the Principality. It is for this reason, along with its excellent geographical location, which in its surroundings was building up an important road network that made during the centuries of the Reconquista became the center of communications. For the Granada there are made the Via Augusta, via Merchant, from the inside, and the via Francisca, from the South.

But it is also for this an excellent road network that was the site of step in all the struggles that there have been in our land. One of the most remembered was the 1642, in the framework of the reapers ' war, in which the Spanish troops were defeated by French forces, precisely, in the castle of the town. It must be for this reason that Philip V made him tear down after the war of the Spanish succession.

Right after this war, the start of a very important economic growth, which is based mainly in the cultivation of vines, but also cereals, olives and vegetables.

Now, a highlight in the economic growth and the population of the town is the arrival of the railway in 1865, which has meant a revolution for the whole region and, in particular, by the municipalities that had, as the Granada.

Since then, the vine-growing and wine production has been growing, with only the stops that caused the plague of phylloxera and the Spanish Civil War, and currently, the Granada is one of the largest producers of wines and CAVAS from the region of Alt Penedès.
